Director, Campaign for a Sound Future

Job Summary
The Director of the Campaign for a Sound Future oversees the comprehensive Campaign for a Sound Future and assists the senior management team with planning and executing long-range philanthropic efforts.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits major individual and institutional donors with primary emphasis on the Campaign for a Sound Future and long-range philanthropic giving.
  • Directs and leads the operation of the Campaign, including preparing operating plans for each campaign phase.
  • With the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Campaign Co-Chairs, manages the solicitation activity of board members and key leadership.
  • Coordinates and regularly works with Directors of Major Gifts, Foundation and Government Relations, Membership and On-air/on-line Giving, and other Chicago Public Radio staff members to advance the Campaign objectives in concert with overall advancement objectives, including developing programs and strategies for identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gifts prospects.
  • Initiates and maintains relationships with donors.  As appropriate, accompanies Campaign volunteers, Chicago Public Radio President and/or Vice President for Institutional Advancement on solicitation calls and ensures timely follow-up with prospects.
  • Conducts research and writes briefing profiles on referred prospects. Participate in strategy sessions about prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation. Records activity and oversee tracking of donor contacts in Raisers Edge.
  • Manages the writing and producing of Campaign materials and develops volunteer solicitation materials.
  • Assists volunteers with Campaign correspondence, including introduction letters, proposals and acknowledgements.
  • Works with Institutional Advancement staff to strengthen in-house support services, such as prospect research, prospect management services, gift processing and reporting procedures, etc.
  • Ensures recognition of donors and volunteers.
  • Oversees Campaign gift reporting process and reports Campaign results regularly to Campaign volunteers and donors.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of philanthropic community and board management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, communication and people skills.
  • Experience in planning and/or coordinating special events with high level volunteers.
  • Proficiency with current versions of Microsoft Office.  Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management database.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment across multiple departments.
 
Education:
College graduate.  Certification/degrees in fundraising and nonprofit management a plus.
 
Qualifications:
Minimum eight years in fundraising, including experience in volunteer management, program development and/or fund-raising.  Specific capital campaign experience preferred.
