Champaign Says No to Homeless Tent City

The Safe Haven tent city community in Champaign, Illinois, has been forced to abandon its tents and move indoors.
Economy Hits Home
The national economic indicators are increasingly bleak. Rising unemployment, a volatile stock market, foreclosures and declining real estate values have economists coming closer to the word “recession”. However the current downturn is defined, it is having a real impact on the lives of Chicago-area residents. Our occassional series, Economy Hits Home, explores that impact. For some, this is a sea change for the worse. People are losing jobs, changing careers and radically altering the way they live their everyday lives. But there are always winners in a slow economy and we’ll have those stories, too.
