The big news in architecture and design this morning might be the announcement of the Pritzker Award Winner.
Architects Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk and Andreas Duany are considered by many to be the “parents” of new urbanism. They co-founded the Congress for New Urbanism in Chicago. This year, the duo won the annual Driehaus Prize for excellence in architecture.
“New Urbanism” promotes mixed use development, sustainability, walkability and traditional neighborhood structures.
Plater-Zyberk and Duany recently joined Eight Forty-Eight architecture contributor Ed Keegan on the corner of Division and Clybourn at the heart of the former Cabrini Green housing projects.
