Mayor Daley Considering Changes to City's Gun Laws

Bookmark and Share Share

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he’ll rework but not scrap the city’s handgun ban in response to a recent US Supreme Court ruling.

DALEY: You have to delve into it.  You have to read it and then find out how you can adapt the changes that we’re looking at locally in regards to this issue, in regards to guns in America.  Local mayors have to deal with it, not the federal government.

Mayor Daley says that among other things, he wants firearms registration to stay a part of the city’s gun policy to protect police and emergency first responders.

Last week, the Supreme Court struck down a handgun ban in Washington DC, but left open whether states or cities can ban handguns. Shortly after, the National Rifle Association filed suit against Chicago over its ban.

The mayor has not had a change to let it really sink in yet. It

Why doesn't Daley just give up? This is the United States of America - NOT Nazi Germany under Hitler!

Maybe he's having a change of heart. He vacations in a CCW state so he must feel safe there. And maybe democrats and republicans will unite behind what's best for America...

Ahhhhhh . . . are you SURE the National Rifle Association filed suit against the city of Chicago? Have you looked at the lawsuit? I think you will find that it was the Illinois State Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation, and not the NRA. Facts are devilish things, but the are worth checking.

Fact more legal guns LESS CRIME Like it or not!

Tony Arnold, Metro Desk Reporter // Thursday, July 03, 2008 @ 10:57 AM

Mr. Gresham, Thanks for your comment. To clarify, both the NRA and the Illinois State Rifle Association have filed lawsuits against the City of Chicago for its hand gun ban. The two organizations have filed separate lawsuits. Thanks.

Chicago doesn't have a gun problem. They have a serious gang problem.

The recent SCOTUS ruling in Re DC v Heller makes clear that "Gun Rights" are the Natural Right of Self Preservation. Further, it is this Natural Right that is the "Spring Board" of every other Natural Right (i.e. Freedom of Speech, to Assemble, etc) and that "That history showed that the way tyrants had eliminated a militia consisting of all the ablebodied men was not by banning the militia but simply by taking away the people’s arms, enabling a select militia or standing army to suppress political opponents. This is what had occurred in England that prompted codification of the right to have arms in the English Bill of Rights." -pg. 25 Opinion of the Court We know that Criminals ignore Daley's Gun Laws.. leaving Chicagoans DEFENSELESS (with exception to his Aldermen and other Politically Chosen Cronies..lol). Yours in Observing Daley's Reign of Terror Near Over, PatrickHenry

As an attendee of the rally, I felt really good about the charge of the people who were in attendance as well as the speakers. although our numbers were relatively small, It was however in the heart of chicago {pit of hell} and the very first rally held in chicago of it's kind ever. I think it's only going to get better from here.
