Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he won't meddle in the election of a new Illinois Senate President. Earlier this week, Emil Jones announced plans to step down at the end of his term. That's led to speculation about who the Senate will choose to replace him. But Daley, a former state senator himself, refused to pick a favorite.
DALEY: That would be up to people in the Senate, that would be up to them to make the judgement what is good for the democratic party. They've had a lot of challenges over the years. I think they have to all come together in regards to a lot of issues.
Among those interested in the Senate's top job are John Cullerton and Rickey Hendon of Chicago. Jeff Shoenberg of Evanston and Waukegan's Terry Link also want the position.
