Barack Obama gives his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. (AP/Ron Edmonds)
Barack Obama was greeted by more than 80,000 cheering supporters at Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High. His acceptance of his party's nomination makes him the first black American to hold a such a position from a major party. Obama promised to cut taxes for nearly all working-class families, end the war in Iraq and break America's dependence on Mideast oil within a decade.
He also attempted to link his criticism of President Bush to John McCain. He said McCain is worthy of respect for his service to the nation, but that when it comes to the problems of working people, McCain "just doesn't get it."
He said electing McCain would mean four more years of the last
eight and that he welcomes a debate on the issues.

After hearing his speech.....I finaly could release my tears that had been welling up in my tear ducts....lol...and I can honestly say that finally someone in the government understands what regular working class people go though on a day to day basis. I agree with all the changes he has put forward......and its about time someone like him is here to America's rescue...to make things good again. Because the last 8 years have been a joke with the Bush Administration....from 911 to Katrina..I think Obama has the new ideas and goals that we all need to keep the world and all of its people in America going strong. And I have never voted in an election...and this is the first time I am 110% sure who I will entrust our country's future with for the next 8 years (hopefully). And I am truly going to pray for this man to win the presidency..
