Rodney Walker could have easily fallen through the cracks. He experienced 15 foster homes in 13 years. His freshman GPA in high school was 1.3. Then, in his senior year at Ace Tech Charter School on Chicago’s South Side, he was introduced to NIFTE, the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. With a friend, he started a business called Forever Life Music and Video Productions, and it’s earned them a spot in the finals of the NIFTY nationwide competition today in New York City. Rodney’s now the president of the freshman class at Morehouse College. We caught up with him earlier this week in his Atlanta dorm room. He talked about school, his business, and the impact NIFTE had on his life.

The NFTE curriculum deserves more attention and continues to enhance the lives of many young people in CPS. More people need to know about the benefits of the NFTE curriculum. I wished there was a program to highlight the acheivements of students who participate in this entrepreneurship program.

Congratulations to Rodney. A wonderful young man. He will be a keynote speaker at the 2009 IIEE Young Entrepreneurs Conference April 30-May 2,2009.Entrepreneurship education is missing from most schools in our country. Rodney is a fine example of the impact E education has on a student's life! There are many more students looking to start their own businesses. It is a career choice NOT talked about. www.iiee.org
