Obama: No Contact With Blago About Senate Seat

Bookmark and Share Share

President-elect Barack Obama says he's never talked about his vacant Senate seat with Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Federal prosecutors say the governor tried to leverage the seat for his personal gain. Obama says he wants to find out what contact, if any, his staff had with Blagojevich.

OBAMA: What I'm absolutely certain about is that our office had no involvement in any deal making around my Senate seat. That I'm absolutely certain of. That would be a violation of that everything that this campaign has been out. And that's not how we do business.

But two weeks ago, Obama aide David Axelrod told Fox News Chicago that the president-elect did talk to the governor about a successor. In a statement, transition officials say Axelrod misspoke.

Also today, Obama reiterated his call for Blagojevich to resign.
