The view of the ice from Section 30 of Wrigley Field (WBEZ/Tony Arnold)
The ice rink being built on Wrigley Field is nearing completion. Crews are getting ready for the NHL hockey game to be played at the Cubs' park on New Years Day.
Crews are putting in 16-17-hour days to get everything up and going for Thursday's game between the Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings. Don Renzulli is with the NHL. He says they're in pretty good shape for the game, although he'd like to have a little more snow on the field.
RENZULLI: We've lost a lot on the field and we'll figure out how we address that in the next couple days. But hopefully we get a little bit of snow toward the end of the game.
Crews say 22-degrees is the ideal temperature for the ice, but forecasts say it could be in the mid-30s. The rink is expected to be completed by mid-day today.
