Burris Request Denied by Illinois Supreme Court

The Illinois Supreme Court says Secretary of State Jesse White doesn't need to sign Roland Burris' appointment to the U.S. Senate to make it valid.
The ruling says no Illinois official has to do anything further to validate the appointment made by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Burris was refused President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat this week in part because Senate Democratic leaders said his paperwork was incomplete without White's signature.

The state Supreme Court says nothing in state law requires White to sign the appointment. White has said he wouldn't certify any Blagojevich appointment in the wake of the governor's federal corruption arrest unless the court forced him to. Blagojevich was impeached Friday.

THIS HEADLINE IS TOTALLY MISLEADING, Lake View, Chicago // Friday, January 09, 2009 @ 1:18 PM

Burris wasn't denied by the state supreme court, but basically affirmed. Please, at least get the headlines right in this day and age of instant everything.

ted, burr ridge // Friday, January 09, 2009 @ 3:48 PM

the court said his appointment is valid....that's the headline

This is actually one of the FEW sources to get this right Ted! Did you bother to read the (readily available) ruling? http://www.state.il.us/COURT/Opinions/SupremeCourt/2009/January/107816.pdf
