The three candidates in Illinois' 5th Congressional District have less than a week before their special election. And last night, they had their first debate on WTTW's Chicago Tonight.
Many political watchers have written off Tuesday's special election. The district is so heavily Democratic, they say it's Mike Quigley's to lose. When asked about the district's Democratic image, Republican Rosanna Pulido says she's heard voters are tired of the same party running things.
PULIDO: I don't even have to push them. They're ready to see a fresh face and do something different. You know, when people tell me that they have voted Democrat all their lives, I just ask them, 'And how's that working for you?'
Green Party candidate Matt Reichel says he hopes to pull votes from Democrats who didn't support Quigley in the primary. The debate was pretty tame, but there was some contention about whether, or how, the federal government should help the ailing auto industry.
