Low Voter Turnout Expected in Special Election

 Rahm Emanuel (AP/File) |
Voters in Illinois' 5th Congressional District will choose their next representative Tuesday.
The special election on Chicago's North Side and a few suburbs will fill the seat vacated by Rahm Emanuel, who's now the White House chief of staff. The three candidates left standing all competed in crowded primaries with low voter turnout.
Jim Allen is with the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners. He says he's expecting a lower turnout today than the 17-percent who showed up for the special primary.
ALLEN: Part of the reason, too, is that spring break is on in Chicago so there may be a larger number of voters who are going to be out of town.
Allen says about 2,000 people have voted early for today's election. Four-thousand came out early for the primary.

Ed, 5th District // Tuesday, April 07, 2009 @ 8:31 AM
Go Rosanna Pulido! Beat that Democratic cesspool. This will be REAL CHANGE in the 5th. Quigley is just more of the same corruption, and must be stopped! If there was ever a chance to reclaim the 5th District for “We The People”, this is it! Go Rosanna Pulido!

Yes the State Director of Illinois Minuteman Project is definitely going to gain broad support and fight for the people. What sort of fantasy are you living in?

Seriously, do you know anything about Quigley?! He has been and always will be a reformer. And, he is green as can be to boot. At what might be his last official meeting as a Cook County official, a couple of his fellow democrats went on record by saying, "Good riddance." They don't like his reform.
