Illinois Reform Commission Says No to Recall

Bookmark and Share Share

Members of the Illinois Reform Commission say they're standing by their decision not to recommend recall. The commission's report, released Tuesday, tackles topics like campaign finance and re-districting. Governor Pat Quinn says he wants voters to have the power to recall elected officials. But commission member Hanke Gratteau doesn't agree.

GRATTEAU: The voters already do get to decide at election time. And part of the thinking on recalls is that voters might pay even less attention at election time, if they think, 'well if we make the wrong decision we can change our minds later.'

At least one commission member, Patrick Collins, says he supports allowing recall. But Collins says the panel only recommended actions that received unanimous support.

Boy do we have a lot of politicians that should be recalled here in Chicago. They all lie to the voters just before the election and we have to wait until the next election to get rid of these bums! So whats the big deal they vote themselfs a big pay raise and benefits then tax you to the MAX! Higher taxes are blamed on the goverment employees and their unions trying to get a living wage. So go ahead and change the election laws so you can stay in office forever and then appoint your son or daughter.
