Chicago Alderman Joins Quinn's Staff
Produced by City Room on Tuesday, May 12, 2009
|
 |
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn Tuesday appointed Chicago Alderman Billy Ocasio as his senior advisor. Ocasio has been on the city council for more than 16 years. He was the only alderman to oppose Mayor Richard Daley's budget plan last year. But says that disagreement won't stop him from working with the mayor.
OCASIO: He's a person of very high integrity, I respect him and he's my friend. But I do have a job to do and my job is to get with the program and get with the agenda of Governor Quinn.
Ocasio acknowledges his new position could be temporary because of next year's election for governor. But the alderman says that's a risk he is willing to take. Ocasio is expected to start his new job in June. Mayor Daley will appoint his replacement on the city council.
