Tagging Along for the World's Largest Scavenger Hunt
|
 |
Every May the world’s largest scavenger hunt takes place at the University of Chicago. Undergrads, and even some alumni embark on a four-day journey, gathering, constructing and performing hundreds of items. Matthew Long-Middleton has this audio postcard from the event.

The scavenger hunt story was not an audio postcard. And characterizing the U of C's intensity (my alma mater) by saying it's the home of the atom bomb? While the scavenger hunt story does add a new dimension to the stereotype of the U of C, surely there are more interesting things going on there?

I participated in this scavenger hunt at the U of C six times - four during college and two since. This honestly is one of the most interesting things that happen on campus, partly due to the great variety of activity that it encompasses, and anyone who says otherwise has an obviously small amount of knowledge about it. I would encourage all of you out there to get involved (teams are not limited to students) in order to experience the fulfillment of the hands-on discovery that you can accomplish many things that you would expect to be beyond your abilities.

I couldn't agree more about the need for us all, young and old, to foocus on activities that tap into our creativity, create a sense of comnunity, and is just plan ol' fun. I'm thinking about proposing something (much smaller scale) like this for our next community day. Thanks for this very interesting & informative story.
