Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he'll take responsibility for problems with the city's parking meters. Daley acknowledges there should've been a smoother transition when a private company took over earlier this year. Reporters Tuesday asked Daley who should take the blame.
DALEY: I'll take it. Yes, I'll take responsibility. Yes, I'll take responsibility. Yes, I'll take it.
Despite problems with the meters, the mayor says the deal needed to be made to help the city's budget.
DALEY: If we didn't have money for a long term debt, you're talking about a serious economic crisis then for Chicago. Those are all the things we've done to support to hold this up, it's not as bad...it could be worse.
Meanwhile, Alderman Leslie Hairston says even with the deal the city is still in a serious economic crisis. Hairston criticized the private company for continuing to take the public's money when many meters were broken and mis-labeled.
