Daley: Carothers is Innocent Until Proven Guilty
Produced by City Room on Tuesday, June 02, 2009

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says people shouldn't rush to judgement on the charges facing Alderman Isaac Carothers. Carothers faces six federal counts related to gifts he allegedly received from a developer.
DALEY: A person is innocent until proven guilty. People are concerned about these allegations; let's be realistic. You know him. You've talked to him and others. They're concerned about that. But in America, you're innocent until proven guilty.
Carothers is one of Daley's allies in city council. The mayor won't say whether he thinks the alderman should step down from his prominent post as chair of the police and fire committee. Carothers' attorney says the alderman will plead not guilty to the charges.
