Illinois U.S. Congressman Mark Kirk is still being coy about his political aspirations.
Kirk's name has been mentioned for several key elections next year: U.S. senate, Illinois governor, or re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Kirk is widely seen in political circles as a viable Republican contender in a statewide race. At a media event, Kirk gave no indications which way he's leaning.
KIRK: I think it's clear: the voters of the 10th District want a good congressman. In my view, we can do much better with a new governor and we can certainly do better than Roland Burris in the senate.
Kirk says he's delayed announcing his intentions until he sees who else enters the races. Many Democratic contenders for governor and senate have been closely watching which way Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan goes. She's also been eyeing the governor's mansion and Roland Burris's U.S. Senate seat.
