Bronzeville Advocates Outline Housing Plan
Produced by Natalie Moore on Wednesday, June 24, 2009

A Chicago neighborhood group worried about dwindling affordable housing has presented city officials with a plan.
The group Housing Bronzeville wants to buy 500 city-owned vacant lots for a dollar each.
In turn, the nonprofit says it will find a developer to build homes for families earning no more than $60,000 a year.
Housing Bronzeville’s Jeffery Campbell says the possible Olympic Games coming to Chicago has residents in the historic neighborhood worried about gentrification.
CAMPBELL: We believe it has something to do with the fact that Bronzeville was designated as the 2016 Olympic host committee. Yes, gentrification is there but the gentrification that has occurred has occurred at the behest of the city.
City housing officials say they had been waiting for an official plan from the group.
