The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a Chicago man lied to the FBI about terrorism threats.
According to the feds, Uzair Ali Hashmi told the FBI that he was approached by someone who suggested he join “gods military” and asked his opinion of a “homegrown jihad.” Allegedly, Hashmi also gave the FBI a letter which contained threatening statements like: “Our job here is to carry out ‘the mission’ of giving the nonbelivers what they deserve.”
The Chicago Joint Terrorism Task Force investigated and came to the conclusion the information provided by Hashmi was a hoax. The 20 year old has been charged with three felony counts of making false statements to the FBI. Each count carries a maximum penalty of eight years in prison. Hashmi is scheduled to be arraigned next week in federal court.
