Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he'd welcome passage of an income tax hike this fall in the legislature, but he doesn't think it's likely.
QUINN: If some of our Republican friends hit their head in the tub and come to Springfield and say, 'Hey, let's raise the revenue necessary to pay for government,' we'll shake their hands and say, 'Hallelujeh, and let's get going.' I think that that's not a likely scenario.
It wasn't just Republicans who opposed Quinn's income tax plan earlier this year. More than 30 Democratic lawmakers also voted against a tax hike.
Quinn has said he wants the income tax debate to take place after the primary election in February. He says he wants lawmakers this fall to raise cigarette taxes and close tax loopholes.
