NRDC: BP Should Stop Work
Produced by Michael Puente on Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Indiana environmental officials have 90 days to review an air permit granted to BP for its Whiting, Indiana. refinery. The action is welcomed by environmentalists even though it won’t stop construction.
Ann Alexander says there are serious flaws in the way BP calculated the potential emissions from its refinery once its expansion is completed in three years.
Alexander, a senior attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council in Chicago, says that in itself should force BP to stop construction.
ALEXANDER: The right thing to do would be for BP to take everything back to the drawing board and then construct the refinery based on what’s actually going to happen in terms of pollution.
The U.S. EPA says the Indiana must review the air pollution permit it granted BP and submit it for reconsideration.
BP says the EPA’s request does not require it to stop construction on the $4 billion project.
Once completed, the refinery will be able to process heavier Canadian crude oil.
