A spokesman for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says he might appeal a federal judge's ruling against the office. Dart wanted to sue the web site Craigs List for helping to facilitate prostitution.
Dart's argument against Craigslist was specific to its once very popular Erotic Services section. Anyone could post a classified or personal ad for a small fee and Dart says it's often done using code words for prostitution.
After the lawsuit was filed, Craigslist made some changes, eliminating the Erotic Services section and making one category called Adult.
In his ruling, federal Judge John Grady says the web site is not to blame for the prostitution services that may result from a posting, it's the web users who post the content who are responsible. The judge says Dart can still use the web site as a source for cracking down on prostitution, but he can't sue the web site for facilitating it.
