Candidates and their staffs are turning in thousands of signatures in for the February 2010 primary. Doors at the county office building opened around 6 a.m., but petitions won't be accepted until 9 a.m. There's a good deal of coffee, doughnuts and surprisingly awake people down there. Everyone in by 9 a.m. has a shot at being listed first on the ballot. A lottery for that will be held later.
Up for grabs this election: Cook County Board President, commissioners, Water Reclamation District, not to mention state officers, including governor and a U.S. Senate seat.
