Gov. Pat Quinn (WBEZ/Kate Gardiner)
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he hopes a campaign finance bill will be hammered out in Springfield this week.
QUINN: I think if we all work together we can get a good outcome. I think we wanna take big money out of politics and put the people back in. that's what I'd like to see and I think that's what the voters of Illinois are looking for.
The governor vetoed an earlier campaign ethics bill in late August.
Since then, Quinn and legislators have been working with business and civic leaders to craft new campaign finance rules.
A major sticking point has been capping donations from legislative leaders.
House Speaker and Democrat Michael Madigan has argued such caps would leave candidates at the mercy of special interests.
The 2009 veto session ends Friday.
