With all due respect: this was as cushy an interview as I have heard in a long time. The phrase "throwing softballs" comes to mind.
The mayor was thrown slow pitches which were easy to hit. Don't get me wrong. Like Alison Cuddy and she asked some very good questions. However, the mayor redirected almost every single question and framed his answer to make himself look good. Ms.Cuddy failed to hold the mayor to the task of actually answering the question that she asked. (1)She asked about the parking meter leasing issue. The mayor said that people are embracing the new technololgy and that they like it. TECHNOLOGY? WHAT ABOUT THE HIGH COST OF PARKING IN CHICAGO? There was no follow up on this question.(2)She asked about school/teen violence and the mayor responded with his favorite issue to point his finger at: guns. What did guns have to do with the recent and notorious beating death of Fenger HS student Derrion Albert? This question should have been the follow up. There was no follow up because then(3)the subject drifted to neighborhood schools and the mayor told Ms. Cuddy that he disagreed with her assertion that these students cant learn and that they should be kept in their neighborhoods (note: Ms Cuddy made no such assertion). And whereas Ms. Cuddy did bring up that all schools should be quality the mayor just ran over her.
Like I said, I like Alison Cuddy but the mayor outclassed her in this interview. I truly, truly wish she would have been more aggressive. Perhaps then the listening audience would have had a real interview.
I know how critical I am being of Ms. Cuddy and I am sorry. I actually really enjoy the segments that she airs but damn, I am so sick of the mayor not being pressed on issues! She had the opportunity to hold his feet to the fire and she was either unable to or declined to.

As Democrats of the Democratic Party, we are joining together in seeking reform within the Democratic Party.
Many of our elected representatives within the Democratic Party are no longer following in the time-honored footsteps laid down by the founding fathers of our great Nation. More importantly, we as democrats see our elected representatives within the Democratic Party abandoning the values and principles as set forth within the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
Nonetheless, this is only the beginning of our problems as Democrats, for the current Democratic Party leadership is tainted by corruption and being taken over by Socialists. These Socialists are clearly a threat to everything we hold sacred in America, and they are gaining evermore control over our Democratic Party, our Nation, and the American people.
Despite this, we as Democrats can restore control of the Democratic Party back to the party members. All we need to do is cut off donations to the local, state, and national headquarters of the Democratic Party, and to make sure the donations are made directly to patriotic and honorable Democratic Party candidates that are not corrupt and/or Socialist.
So please help spread the message to everyone of our fellow Democrats. Also, don't forget to contact and request the Unions and other outside contributors to follow our lead as patriotic Americans.
Thank you, and God Bless America.

Now ask yourself these questions:
1. What is the name of the political doctrine our Democratic Party leadership has adopted from Communism?
2. What is the name of the political doctrine our Democratic Party leadership has adopted from Marxism?
3. What is the name of the political doctrine our Democratic Party leadership has adopted from fascist dictatorships?
4. What is the name of the political doctrine our Democratic Party leadership has adopted from Adolph Hitler?
The answer to all of them is Socialism.

Even with the softballing, Daley still lies through his teeth.
"most TIF funds don't generate any money... most TIFs are used for schools, parks"
All demonstrably false.

Wow. Congratulations Mr. Daley, you officially sound like someone who has lost touch, contradicts, and redirects everything that is questioned of or has been quoted from you. It's time for a change.

"it will be a benefit in the long run- people are responding to it" ???? This guy really needs to be elected out of office. An autocrat can remain in power without a mandate only for so long.

Mayor Daley's continued stance that guns are the primary cause of increased youth violence in Chicago is an insult to the intelligence of the citizenry of the City. By turning firearms into the catch-all scapegoat for violence he and many of his peers in city government have created a successful distraction from the true causes of the violence. How long can Daley expect the voters in Chicago to watch his dog and pony show blaming guns while we let him and his city government do nothing about poverty, segregation, and disenfranchisement of the city’s youth? So far the guns answer has gone completely unchecked by the media so Daley doesn’t ever have to answer for the marked decline in conditions in Chicago’s black neighborhoods during his tenure as Mayor. This scapegoating is a poorly thought out form of fear mongering the likes of which have only been matched in America by the red scare and the recent federal response to terrorism. Daley can justify any stupid action by blaming guns and gets a pass from the media.

Shame on you, Daley, for your comments about Englewood. Saying that "that is the worst thing we could do" by keeping students in their community or "hood" is terrible. There are some great schools in the Englewood community meeting and exceeding standards, but obviously you're ignorant about those schools and programs and people who are trying to resurrect this community instead of telling people to run from it. Funny, I thought Englewood was also a part of your city.
