Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says progress was made during the recent veto session in Springfield, but more could have been done.
Governor Quinn says the cemetery oversight bill is one thing he would've liked to have seen approved during the veto session. The legislation would require owners of private cemeteries to apply for a license, and burial records would have to be submitted to the state. The measure got held up in the Senate, but Quinn is confident it could pass next time lawmakers meet.
QUINN: If we can do it in January, it will be prompt, especially at the beginning of the year there. This is important. I think the people expect the legislature to vote on the bill in the Senate, and then it will come to me and we'll act quickly.
The Governor, however, did commend lawmakers for acting on a bill that limits campaign contributions. It caps donations, but it doesn't regulate the amount of money a political party or legislative leader can give to a campaign in general elections. Quinn calls the bill a move forward, but says he needs to review it more carefully before signing off.
