Raúl Dorantes, moderator and contratiempo magazine editorial board member, Gerardo Cárdenas, Mexican writer and Editorial Director of contratiempo magazine, Mario Hernández Gallardo, Honduran writer, and Alejandro Ferrer, Chilean writer.

contratiempo magazine contributing writers facilitate this discussion of the short stories of Sun, Stone and Shadows, the book chosen by presenters Boundless Readers and National Louis University for the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read in Chicago.

The audience included The Big Read book discussion groups, Big Read supporters, contratiempo readers and the general public. In this conversation, the writers explore and discuss the influence that the Mexican authors of these short stories, which include Juan Rulfo, Octavio Paz, Rosario Castellanos, Juan José Arreola and Carlos Fuentes, have had in their own narrative.

This is a bilingual event.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.

Recorded Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Lozano Branch Library.
