Durbin Calls for New Management at VA Hospital

Bookmark and Share Share

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is calling for new management at a troubled veterans' hospital in southern Illinois. Two years ago, an investigation found nine veterans at the VA hospital in Marion died from medical malpractice and mismanagement. New managers have started working at the hospital, but Durbin says he was shocked a new government report found problems still continue.

DURBIN: The failure to follow up on the deaths of veterans at the hospital to determine the causes. The exposure of innocent veterans to MRSA. And equipment that was not properly installed and was a danger to the staff and to the patients. Well, it was the last straw for many of us.

Durbin says he's met with the U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary about the hospital. He says he expects new management to be put in place soon.
