The Chicago Department of Aviation has one less obstacle in its plans to expand O'Hare International Airport. The Village of Bensenville has come to an agreement with the department.
For a $16 million settlement, the Village of Bensenville is changing its stance on the O'Hare Modernization Program. Bensenville will drop its pending demolition court cases related to the airport plan, and it will allow the city of Chicago to acquire properties for new runways. That means about 500 homes will be torn down. The Bensenville President Frank Soto calls the settlement a victory for residents saying it gives the village a strong voice in demolition plans.
The $15 billion airport modernization project was announced in 2001. It's expected to clear up congestion and create new jobs.
