Walmart Plan Still Stuck in City Council

A proposal clearing the way to build a Walmart in Chicago's South Side is still caught up in a city council committee.
Chicago's Committee on Finance apparently won't consider a proposal to build a new Walmart until certain agreements are reached. That's according to a statement sent from Alderman Ed Burke's office. He's the chairman of the committee.
This isn't the first time Walmart has been an issue with the city council. But Mayor Richard Daley says a lot has changed in the past few years.
DALEY: I think the citizens realize that if they can work for $10 an hour or $10.50. That's $80 a day they're getting or a little bit more. That's better than nothing, today.
Burke has said in the past he wants Walmart to come to an agreement with the city's labor unions who oppose the big box store. Aldermen Howard Brookins and Anthony Beale say the unions and the company are getting closer to reaching an agreement.
