FCC Chairman Visits Chicago to Call for More Technology

The Federal Communications Commission has its eye on Chicago for solutions to bringing more technology to urban areas. Julius Genachowski heads the FCC. He says the FCC wants to be a partner as Chicago moves to bring more wireless internet to under-served neighborhoods.

GENACHOWSKI: We're paying a lot of attention to the smart actions being taken in cities like Chicago. We're not looking to invent everything in Washington. We're looking at the best ideas that are working and thinking about what can we do to expand them nationally.

Genachowski says more wireless internet in areas like Chicago's southwest side can help small businesses thrive.

Meantime, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says the city has used new technology to help clear the streets of snow. He says red light cameras have many uses including seeing where more plows or salt is needed.
