Microbreweries in Indiana stand to benefit from new legislation in the General Assembly.
A bill approved today by the House of Representatives would allow microbreweries to sell beer for takeout on Sundays.
Dan Tompkins is the general manger of Three Floyds' brewpub in Munster, which was rated as the best brewery in the world by the 100,000 users of ratebeer.com. He says the change will be a boon to Indiana businesses.
TOMPKINS: We're really interested in the people who live in the area, in Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area, because those are the people who support us, and those are the people who want to get our beer. In fact we get a lot of people who wouldn't come down from Chicago to buy our beer on Sunday because they can't, and then they wouldn't have lunch at our brewpub or dinner.
Tompkins says the legislation reflects a "common sense" approach to politics.
The bill now returns to the Senate for consideration of changes made by the House. If passed, the legislation would also repeal a law that prohibits alcohol sales during voting hours on election days.
