14th District
Republican Congressman Dennis Hastert represented the 14th District for a little more than 20 years before resigning this past November. The district includes the Fox River Valley and the cities of Elgin and Aurora, and extends west past Dixon almost to the Mississippi River. Redistricting in 2001 moved the district west into some staunchly Republican counties. Fifty-five percent of the district voted for President Bush in 2004 versus 44 for Kerry.
