Republican Congressman Ray LaHood currently represents the 18th District and will retire at the end of this year after seven terms. The district includes Peoria and follows south along the Illinois River, east to include half of Springfield, and west almost to the Iowa border. The district historically has been mixed, but in recent years has been leaning Republican. President Bush had a nearly 16-percentage-point winning margin in the 2004 election with 58 percent.
