Democratic Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky has represented the 9th district since she was elected in 1998. The district includes most of Chicago’s lakefront, from just north of Diversey Harbor through West Rogers Park to Evanston. It extends west through Skokie, Morton Grove, Niles and most of Des Plaines, to the once-very Republican Park Ridge. The district as a whole is “overwhelmingly Democratic.” Sixty-eight percent of residents voted for John Kerry in 2004.
