African-American women have a lower rate of breast cancer than whites. But when it comes to young black women, the opposite is true. Some scientists think that genes associated with ancestry might be the culprit and that discovering those genes, might help lead to a treatment or cure. Yet this type of research also raises questions about whether a disease can be linked to race, and whether doing so will lead to renewed discrimination.
