Barbershop Welcomes Discussion on Youth Violence
Produced by on Monday, December 21, 2009
Violence was chief among the many issues we covered as a show over the year. Since last September, more than 70 Chicago Public School students have been shot. A seemingly unstoppable spate of killings in Chicago brought the eyes of the nationand the world upon us. But it was a fatal beating, not shooting, that was most shocking. The world watched a video of 16-year-old Derrion Albert’s brutal murder, revealing area teens beating him to death after school on the South Side of Chicago. Shortly after that tragedy, Richard Steele got together with a group of black men, both young and not so young, to take on the issue. They met at a north side barbershop. Here are their stories and opinions.
