As Tony Sarabia pointed out, synth pop artist A Severe Joy (née José Ayerve) looks a little different in person than the sound you hear over the air. From the mask that he wears to his combination of acoustic guitar playing and prerecorded backing tracks he plays off his iPod, A Severe Joy (an anagram for Ayerve's name) manages to create an entirely new sound. He talked to Tony about the challenges of building his sound as a solo performer and the logistics of performing live alone. His latest album is called Joy; A Severe Joy will be at Quenchers Saloon this Friday.
