Word cloud: Schools the big theme in inauguration speech

May 16, 2011

It's pretty clear where Mayor Rahm Emanuel's focus is going to be. At certain points during his inauguration speech today it sounded like Emanuel was being sworn in as school board president rather than mayor.  It's all about education. Check out this graphic depiction of his speech:

If this word cloud grouped "school" and "schools" together as a single entry, it would appear almost as large as the word "Chicago." In his 23-minute inaugural address, Emanuel said the word "city" 42 times. He uttered Chicago's name 41 times. And he said school or schools 36 times. Here are some other nouns that cropped up in his address, along with the number of times Emanuel said them:

child/children 19
job/jobs 12
government 10
parent/parents 9
future 9
Daley 8
