Yet another Chicago music festival

February 23, 2012

A few stray rumors in recent weeks aside, the Spring Awakening Festival seems to have popped up out of the blue, with the official announcement of the electronic dance music shindig going out today and saying it will drop into Soldier Field on June 16 and 17 with headliners Skrillex, Afrojack, Moby (doing a DJ set), Flux Pavilion, Laidback Luke, Wolfgang Gartner, Diplo and A-Trak.

Billed as brought to us by "React & Congress," with a tie-in to Groupon but apparently no connection to Lollapalooza promoters C3 Presents (who have for several years had a deal to present non-sporting entertainment events at the home of the Bears that so far has yielded very little action), the festival also will feature Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Arty, Claude VonStroke, Derrick Carter, Dillon Francis, Destructo, Downlink, Felix Cartal, Gabriel & Dresden, Green Velvet, Hardwell, Joachim Garraud, Kill The Noise, Lance Herbstrong, Midnight Conspiracy, Morgan Page, Nathan Scott, NERVO, Nobody Beats The Drum and, according to the hype sheet, "countless others."

Countless? Really? Surely somebody could add 'em, no?

Tickets are on sale now, priced at $99 for a two-day pass, $199 for VIP access via ClubTix.Com, which notes that "Beer & Wine will be available for PURCHASE in GA for 21+."

Hey, Chicago, we've come a long way since the days of Mayor Daley's anti-rave ordinance in the '90s! But there's nothing like a budget crisis to loosen things up for anything that might generate a little bit of revenue.
