Seattle vs. Chicago: Local commercials

January 12, 2011

This week we are featuring our tale of two cities in preparation for the showdown between the Chicago Bears and the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field Sunday. We are taking it past the gridiron and following the lead of the Seattle Times, which is comparing the two cities' infrastructure, history and food. We wanted to expand on the idea, and bring some more comparisons to light. Today, we bring you local commercials.

Seattle has a few great local commercials, including a new one from a divorce lawyer that is going viral. But how can you compete with Walter E. Smithe and Peter Francis Geraci?

Here is the divorce lawyer commercial:

But not to be outdone, Chicago counters with the insurance commercials. C'mon, Eagle Man sequel featuring Mancow?

Of course, Seattle won't lay down. They bring the heat with Leroy menswear. Those are some cool clothes!

And for Chicago's counter? Let's go with the heavyweights Walter E. Smithe. The furniture company just released a football themed commercial featuring a few 1985 Chicago Bears:

Leroy Menswear really makes this a tough call. But I give the nod to the hometown talent.

Chicago wins this round, just based on the use of local celebrities.

(I don't know Seattle local TV that well, so maybe Eddie Vedder and the guy who owns Starbucks have their own insurance commercials, but highly doubtful.)

Tomorrow: Alt media!
