Friday Foodie Forecast: Chicago's first pop-up restaurants, DMK Burger Bash and more

A delicious meal can be even more satisfying when eaten for charity. Suddenly, chowing down on your 20th chicken wing or third helping of mac 'n cheese doesn't seem so shameful when you can wipe your mouth and say "it was for a good cause!" Goose Island hosts a pig roast to benefit Slow Food Chicago, DMK Burger Bar throws a bash for Share Our Strength and Oak Park drinks beers for Seven Generations Ahead. These are events worth feeling good (and hungry) about.

DMK Burger Bash

Michael Kornick's DMK Burger will host its Shift Drinks (And Eats) event this Sunday, July 25 to benefit Share Our Strength, a campaign to end child hunger. Beginning at 8:00 PM, a $10 donation at the door gets you the whole DMK menu at 50% off. Grass-fed beef burgers, Colorado lamb burgers, blue cheese and bacon fries, and two types of fancy mac "Ëœn' cheese are just some of the highlights. Raffles and giveaways will also take place throughout the evening. DMK Burger Bar is located at 2954 N. Sheffield Avenue.

Chicago's First Pop Up Restaurants Arrive This Weekend

For two days only, the‚ Logan Square Kitchen will host Chicago's first pop-up restaurants. Bill Kim of Urban Belly and Belly Shack will present "Country Belly" while Jason Hammel of Nightwood and Lula Cafe will present "Donuts & Coffee". Guests can grab bites of Asian elotes, yuzu lemonade, lemongrass chicken lettuce wraps, jelly donut ice cream and blueberry-creme fraiche donuts before heading to the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Fest taking place outside. The restaurants will only be open for two days from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and will accept cash only. Seating will be limited. Logan Square Kitchen, located at 2333 N. Milwaukee Avenue, will post menu updates on its‚ Facebook page.

Slow Food Chicago Pig Roast

Slow Food Chicago's second annual pig roast will take place on Sunday, August 22 at the Goose Island Brewery in Fulton Market. Nine chefs, including Rick Gresh of Primehouse, David Carrier of Kith & Kin, Jared Wentworth of Longman & Eagle and Mark Steuer of The Gage, will prepare an homage to all things pork. Vegetarians will be in the capable hands of Angel Food Bakery's Stephanie Samuels. Tickets can be purchased online, and are discounted to $50 if purchased by August 1. After August 1, the price is $60 and all proceeds benefit Slow Food Chicago. The event begins at 2:00 PM at Goose Island, 1800 W. Fulton Street.

City Provisions Deli Opening

Cleetus Friedman, the chef, caterer and sustainability poster boy, will expand his City Provisions business with a deli set to open July 30 or August 1. Located in Ravenswood, the deli will feature in-house butchered and cured meats (all from within 200 miles of Chicago), as well as pastries, dry goods, Crop-to-Cup coffee and "Ravinia Baskets" that diners can pick up before they hop on the Metra. The deli will feature indoor and outdoor seating for about 30 guests. City Provisions Delicatessen will be located at 1826 W. Wilson Avenue.

Oak Park Micro Brew Review

The Illinois Craft Brewers Guild brings together 25 Midwestern microbreweries for a tasting of more than 70 beers on Saturday, August 21 at the Oak Park Micro Brew Review. From 3:00 to 7:00 PM, guests can fill their beer tasting glass with pours from Founders, Goose Island, Half Acre, Metropolitan, New Belgium, Rock Bottom, Two Brothers and more. Marion Cheese Market and other chefs will serve local and organic snacks during the event. Tickets are $35 and are available online, with proceeds benefiting Seven Generations Ahead. The tasting will take place on Marion Street between North Boulevard and Lake Street.
