A Day in the Sun

April 10, 2013

This past Saturday, WBEZ, Vocalo and the UIC Social Justice Initiative co-presented the Sixth Annual Global Activism Expo.  While the day was slightly overcast, inside the Main Hall of the UIC Forum, the sun was shining brightly.

"...an uncommonly spectacular day... an amazing thing you and your colleagues have assembled." - Joan Rothenberg

"Thank you, thank you, a million times over to you and all the staff for the great job pulling of yesterday's Expo!

The WBEZ volunteers deserve a huge kudo!  They made our participation SO much easier with their ubiquitous presence and conscientious help." -- Keen Harrison

"My family has been to all six expos and this one was by far the best!  My son especially loved the tiny bicycles from Working Bikes and the circus kids [CircEsteem] were a fantastic addition." -- Joshua Alberts

"...excellent, excellent, excellent! When I donate money to WBEZ every year, I sometimes wonder where it goes.  The expo is a reminder that my contribution makes a real difference..." -- Lindsey Shabana

"As a presenter I wanted to express our teams gratitude for the impressive expo you folks organized. I was amazed from the moment we pulled up to the door. I had no idea we would have so many helping hands welcome us, get our set up to our booth and help us with our quirky needs like a rag to wipe something off our signage.

It was so neat to see the whole WBEZ team interacting with everyone as one big family.

I was impressed with your interaction with our team. In addition I was impressed with the layout, the planned events of the day, and how supported I felt by each one of you. Our team felt it was one of the best places we’ve ever had a booth or event table. And if you are wondering we’ve been at many venues over the last eight years." - Alice Teisan

The UIC Social Justice Initiative Panel discussions were SRO, the Sponsorship tables were active all day long, the Peace on Earth Film Festival presented four films with talkbacks, and the food was excellent!  We had 90 Activist groups in the end and app. 3,300 people come out from Chicago to see, talk, and act throughout the day making it, by far, our most effective Expo yet!

Thanks to everyone involved!
