We Came, We Ran, We Conquered

September 30, 2013

It was hot.

93 degrees on a humid September day.

The tickets had been purchased.  Nearly 200 fans of running or Peter Sagal or both Peter Sagal and running or the sight of Peter Sagal while running - I mean, who knows? - had dropped a few dollars to join Sagal on the "Ready, Wait Wait, Go!" 5K Fun Run in downtown Chicago on September 10, 2013.  Volunteers, used to less strenuous work, showed up and erected tents for Goose Island Beer, Muscle Milk, F3running.com, Universal Sole, and WBEZ.  Water was carried because It. Was. HOT.

It was hot enough that a local television station came out to report on the heat.  So, of course, Director of Marketing Harris grabbed Sagal and he was interviewed about people who elected to run a 5K with him in the 93 degree heat.

Then nearly 150 people (who were bold enough to show up, tickets in hand) ran nearly 5K with Peter encouraging them, guiding them, and running with them along the lakefront path.

I did not run and lost the body weight of a small child just standing around sweating.  Those who ran were either brave and enthusiastic or certifiably insane but they were laughing like the latter when they arrived after the run.

It was pretty awesome.  We'll be doing this one again.
