Lois Lane and Allen Ginsburg Redux

January 6, 2014

As we approach the very first WBEZ Year in Review, one of the most exciting aspects of the night is the depth of talent that will be gracing the stage at the Park West.  Six of the key reporters who you hear from almost every day on the air (but rarely see) and six of Chicago's hot Live Lit community all in one location is an EVENT.

Allow us to begin the introductions.

NATALIE MOORE

Natalie has been a WBEZ reporter since 2007 and is considered by many to be the Lois Lane of the News Room.  Hardnosed and tenacious, Natalie’s work has been published in Essence, Black Enterprise, the Chicago Reporter, Bitch, In These Times, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune. She is co-author of the books "Deconstructing Tyrone: A New Look at Black Masculinity in the Hip-Hop Generation " and "The Almighty Black P Stone Nation: The Rise, Fall and Resurgence of an American Gang."

J.W.BASILO

"Baz" is a guy who never learned how to shut up. He is also a writer, performer, comedian, musician, and educator from Chicago. Basilo is a National and World Poetry Slam finalist, a PushCart Prize Nominee, and serves as Executive Director of Chicago Slam Works. His work has appeared on NPR, CBS, WGN, in the Chicago Tribune, numerous literary journals, and in hundreds of theaters, dive bars, prisons, schools and comedy clubs across the world.

When not on stage or banging his forehead on a keyboard, Basilo teaches writing and performance to brilliant youth and burned-out adults all over the country. All things considered, he’s doing pretty well for a guy who failed Creative Writing in high school. Currently, you can catch him every Sunday in Chicago at the Green Mill, where he co-hosts The Uptown Poetry Slam and Mondays at Haymarket Pub & Brewery where he serves as co-curator and host of The LitMash. He resides online at www.BustedMouth.com.

Joining these two powerhouse talents are ten others.  Stay tuned for more on them in the coming days.
