The Middle Eastern sounds of the Chicago Turkish Music Society

May 8, 2012

Members of the Middle East Music Ensemble and the Vice Consul of Turkey (yes, the Vice Consul of Turkey) form The Chicago Turkish Music Society to bring to life the traditional sounds of Turkish music in new, original compositions.

Members Ilker Capoglu on oud, Jim Stoynoff on clarinet, Onur Sayin on qanoon and Wanees Zarour on riqq perform on Eight Forty-Eight Tuesday.

This Saturday May 12th, they’ll perform a fundraiser concert at Northeastern University at 8 p.m. The event raises funds for a young scholars fellowship under the Turkish American Cultural Alliance.

They will then perform later this month at University of Chicago as part of the Middle Eastern Studies department’s semi-annual concert. The show takes place on Saturday, May 19th.
