Afternoon Shift

About

A daily conversation about news, culture and ideas.

Jun. 15, 2012

On Friday's Afternoon Shift, and the last day of school for CPS, we talk about a few issues prompted by the beginning of summer.

First we talk about Chicago's persistant gang problem. The violence always seems to escalate when the weather gets warm, so we ask two former gang members what can be done to make this summer different.

Then we cover the breaking news that President Obama's administration has changed its approach to immigration enforcement. That could seriously change the summer plans of undocumented youths in the U.S.

The Chicago Artists Archive are undertaking a huge project this summer- and WBEZ's community bureaus are helping. The Archive collects images, ephemera, artist biographies and anything else that tells the artist’s story, to be documented and formally processed for submission to the archive. The next three Saturdays our bureaus will serve as collection points.

Finally, our review panel shares their 3@3 stories.
