Philippine reproductive health care battle

The Philippine House of Representatives has ended debate on a bill promoting contraception use in the country with one of Asia's fastest-growing populations.
Monday's vote was an initial victory for proponents and President Benigno Aquino III who want to fast-track passage of the proposed law. The issue has divided Asia's largest Roman Catholic nation for years.

As an African-American kid growing up in Chicago during the 1950s, Richard Steele was told to avoid Bridgeport at all costs. In June, he hosted a WBEZ forum about the evolution of the neighborhood’s tempestuous racial politics, as part of the series Race: Out Loud. Tuesday on Eight Forty-Eight he revisits that conversation and talks with Columbia College history professor Dominic A. Pacyga and Maureen Sullivan, co-author of the new book Images of America: Bridgeport. Also in studio is John Goldman, saxaphonist from the John Goldman Quadrangle, who plays live throughout the hour.
