Sometimes even a bicycle can be out of reach for the world’s poorest people.

A Chicago-based charity called World Bicycle Relief wants to rectify that by providing bicycles to people in developing countries, most recently in Zambia.

Eight Forty-Eight’s Alison Cuddy recently sat down with F.K. Day, an executive with the Chicago-based bike components maker SRAM and the founder of World Bicycle Relief.

He says he first had the idea after the devastating southeast Asian tsunami of 2004, when he traveled to Sri Lanka and Indonesia to see if people there needed bikes.

Thanks to Aaron Cahan, who provided audio from Zambia.

WorldVision exhibit going on in Naperville through Monday gives people a glimpse into what life is like for children affected by the AIDS crisis.

The exhibit highlights World Bicycle Relief’s project in Zambia and is taking place at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
